Passport and Visa
Any foreign visitor wishing to enter Malaysia must have a 6 months valid passport. Please contact the Malaysia Embassy locally first. Check if visa is required or free at the Immigration Department of Malaysia, http://www.imi.gov.my. For those of some countries who require visa, please contact the Secretariat (firstname.lastname@example.org). They will help you with required documents for visa issuance.
Malaysia has a tropical climate and offers warm temperatures throughout the year, with an average monthly temperature ranging between 23°C and 32°C. December is monsoon season, but the west areas of Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Langkawi has less rainfall and high humidity (≥80%). December temperatures in KL is likely to range between 20°C to 30°C. Travelers say December is the best time to explore the west areas of Malaysia.
In Malaysia the power sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 240 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. Check the power supply before using your electrical equipment.
Currency and Credit Cards
The unit of Malaysian currency is the Ringgit. Foreign currency and traveler's checks can be exchanged into Ringgit at foreign exchange banks and other authorized money exchangers. Credit cards, including VISA, American Express, Master Card and JCB, are accepted at major hotels, department stores, and large restaurants. The exchange rate is subject to fluctuation.
The official language spoken in Malaysia is the Malaysian language. English is also very commonly spoken in Malaysian. Aside from English, Chinese dialects such as Mandarin and Hokkien are also spoken in the country, primarily by those of Chinese ethnic origin. Tamil is also another popular language spoken in the country, primarily spoken by people from India.
